1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die
1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die edited by Steven Jay Schnider is a large, fairly complete compendium of highly regarded movies. Some foreign and some American. I’m already family with about three quarters of the movies in the volume. And from the decripions want to see a whole lot more of the included pictures.
Surprisingly, a lot of movies that you’ve never heard of are in here, and a lot of movies you’d think would be in a volume like this aren’t. He spices up the descriptions of the movies with some beautiful color stills from the movies. Along with dats such as who directed, wrote, starred and sometimes photgraphed the movies. As well as listed any Oscar nominations or Oscar winners.
There apparently have been several versions of this book. As this is listed as the fifth anniversary editon and it was published in 2008. Word Cat listesat least one from 2003 so it’s obvious he updates the book as necessary.
Some of these movies I haven’t seen for years and the descriptions brought back many memories, and many feelings of joy and sadness. Depending on what reaction the movie brought out in me.
This is a short review for a large book. But I’d advise anyone who loves film to get a copy of it. THe beauty of the stills chose for each movie alone is worth the price of the book.
1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die edited by Steven Jay Schnider is highly recommended.
