Journeys of a Lifetime
Awhile back I wrote about A Rough Guide To The World, a book of "1,000 ultimate travel experiences" and recommended it more for Armchair Travel than as a pracitcal guide book. Journeys is in the same vein, though in this case I believe that Claire and other readers will find suggestions they may actually follow. The 500 destination articles are arranged by categories such as Across Water, By Road, By Rail, In Search of Culture, Gourmet Heven or In Their Footsteps, which features vacation ideas that follow in the steps of famous explorers. The destinations are scattered all over the world, so no matter where you reside on the planet you will find some amazing suggestions that are not that far away.
For Claire’s purpose, which I chose to define as "incredible hiking vacations in Europe", I particularly recommend The Dingle Way (page 177), a "walk along cliffs and beaches past ancient Celtic remains and through quaint country villages in the wild southwest of Ireland" or the Tour Du Mont Blanc (page 181) an extraordinary mountain hiking circuit that winds through the Alps in France, Italy and Switzerland. Those whose interest is in viewing wildlife may be tempted by Bird Watching in Kenya (page 325) while the traveler who is motivated by the chance to take incredible photographs might prefer a boat trip through the Fjords of Norway as described on page 38.
Whatever your interests and wherever you are, Journeys includes several trips that could easily be the trip of your lifetime. Click the book cover to check it out from your library and see for yourself. Highly Recommended.
